• Purchased a spare battery for my M9. I have three Leica M batteries, all work as advertised. I would like for Leica to figure out a way to squeeze longer life out of the batteries. They are about twice the cost of a battery for my 5D Mark II, and about half the life. Other than that quibble, the batteries have been reliable and decent performers. Definitely recommend these over the generic/third party M batteries.

• While small and convenient there is not enough power in these compared to Canon and Nikon batteries. I need a battery that lasts a few days. The Leica battery is dead in a day of heavy shooting and LCD viewing. I would have hoped that with the new M9 a more powerful battery would have come too. There is no other option for the M8&M9 but these batteries and you will still need to buy them but I hope Leica gets the message and makes a more powerful battery.

• The Leica M9 camera goes with me everywhere. I shoot a great deal with it. Having a back up battery is just good sense. For example, what if I'm out and about and I encounter an especially great subject that I really want to get into, spending serious time shooting that. Obviously having that extra battery in your pocket enables you to keep getting those great shots.

Will rotate this battery and the original to help insure that there will always be a fully charged battery when out taking photographs. May purchase a third depending on the number of photos available with each charge. So far, so good.

• That battery has been purchased as back-up power source for digital M-cameras. The ratio between number of pictures/weight(size) is pretty okay. One charge is good for approximately 400 pictures as long as the display is not being used like a gameboy. Coming from bigger DSLRs and MF cameras I really appreciate its low weight and small size.

• The Pearstone battery I tried with my M9 wouldn't communicate very well with the camera, claiming to be low when it was fully charged. The Leica battery works fine. But is way overpriced for a Li Ion battery. But it's the only game in town.
