This lens offers a unique ultra-wide 20mm starting point, providing extra space for landscapes, architecture, and interiors, while extending to 60mm for portraits. It's compact, lightweight, and ideal for travel and everyday use. The fast aperture enhances low-light photography, and close focusing enables detailed shots without lens changes. Its advanced optical design ensures high resolution and minimal focus breathing, while the HLA autofocus delivers quick, smooth focus transitions. Dust and splash resistance add durability.
The Sigma 20-60mm F2.8-4 DG Contemporary takes a different approach to the everyday full-frame zoom. Starting at an ultra-wide 20mm rather than the more conventional 24mm or 28mm, it gives photographers noticeably more room for landscapes, architecture, interiors and video, while still reaching a natural 60mm for everyday details and portraits.
Despite its unusually wide range, the lens remains remarkably compact and lightweight. The maximum aperture begins at F2.8 at 20mm, giving the wide end extra flexibility for interiors, night scenes and available-light photography, while the compact Contemporary-series design makes it an easy lens to leave on the camera for travel and everyday shooting.
The difference between 20mm and a conventional 24mm starting point is significant. That extra width can make all the difference when photographing inside smaller spaces, working with dramatic foregrounds in a landscape or filming yourself at arm's length. From there, the zoom extends naturally through familiar everyday focal lengths to 60mm, giving the lens a useful balance between ultra-wide coverage and normal perspective.
Close focusing adds another dimension to the 20-60mm. At 28mm, the minimum focusing distance is just 15.8cm, while at 35mm the lens reaches a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.3. This near half-macro capability makes it possible to move easily from a wide scene to food, flowers, objects and smaller details without changing lenses.
Inside are 15 elements arranged in 13 groups, including three SLD and three aspherical elements. The optical design is engineered to deliver high resolution across the zoom range while controlling aberrations, with particular attention also given to suppressing focus breathing for more natural-looking changes of focus during video recording.
Sigma's HLA High-response Linear Actuator drives the autofocus system, providing fast and precise focusing for still photography together with smooth operation for video. Combined with the versatile focal range and compact dimensions, it makes the 20-60mm equally comfortable switching between photography and content creation.
The Sony E-mount version weighs just 375g, while the L-Mount version weighs 385g. A dust- and splash-resistant structure provides additional confidence outdoors, and the front element features a water- and oil-repellent coating for easier maintenance. The lens also uses a practical 67mm filter thread.
